Police have released CCTV images of a man they're trying to trace, after a burglary at the Hollytrees Museum in Colchester.

Five historic medals were taken from a display case which was forced open.

The 19th Century artefacts are from the Crystal Palace Electrical Exhibition, the Paris Exposition Universelle International, and Australian International Exhibition in Sydney.

The stolen medals

Police were called at approximately 9:30pm on March 1 to the museum, off High Street.

No arrests have been made and there's appeal for people to help ideintify the suspect pictured in the CCTV images.

Darius Laws, of Colchester Borough Council, said:

“I would urge people to take a look at these images and see if you have any information which could help the police.

“I would also appeal to the person who has taken the medals, or now has the medals, to now arrange for their safe return either to the museum or to the castle.

“More than any financial loss, this is a loss to Colchester’s heritage and it is that loss which can never be replaced."
