A care home in Tendring is celebrating its 20th anniversary by holding an afternoon tea party for residents.

Due to coronavirus restrictions, only residents and staff are attending celebrations at Five Stacks Residential Home in St Osyth today (14 April).

According to the facility's Compliance Manager they have tried to make the occasion as special as possible.

Siobhan Thurlow said:

"We gave them all some formal invitations so they had to RSVP to us to let us know they were coming, just to mark it in their diary and give them something to look forward to.

"With plenty of dancing and fun for all the residents. We had the hairdresser in doing all their hairs yesterday (13 April), we've had corsages and balloons all made for them. It's a big day for them all."

While the celebrations are only for residents and staff of Five Stacks due to Covid-19 restrictions, residents can now have up to two indoor visitors.

The further easing of lockdown rules on Monday (12 April) saw the increase in visitors permitted, which also includes babies and young children, who are not included in visitor numbers.

Siobhan said it's provided a boost for residents:

"Two weeks ago they were allowed one visitor and now they are allowed two. It's lovely to see their faces light up.

"A lot of our residents do have dementia, so for them to communicate how they feel can be quite difficult. You can see the benefits visually and it's really rewarding for us to be able to witness that."
