Two men charged in connection with large cannabis farm in Colchester
Over 500 plants were discovered in the grow by officers
Police in Essex have arrested four men and charged two in connection with the discovery of a large cannabis grow in Colchester.
Officers found the farm on Tuesday afternoon (February 1st), and promptly made the arrests while an investigation was launched.
Phong Nguyen, 22, and Tam Nguyen, 26, both with no fixed address, were charged producing a Class B drug.
In total, over 500 plants were discovered by police at the property on Colchester High Street. The exact value of the grow has yet to be revealed, but officers believe the street value to be "significant".
A third man, aged 39, currently remains in police custody, while a fourth man aged 58 has been released under investigation.
Speaking soon after the grow was found, Colchester district commander, Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston said an investigation was already underway finding others who may be connected.
"Specialist officers will remain at the scene today as we gather evidence to identify all those involved in this cultivation," he said.
“Of course, there will be some concern among our community after this discovery, but I know this investigation is moving along quickly. Four people have been arrested and we are also following several other lines of enquiry.
“The trade in illegal drugs is inextricably linked to violence and the proceeds from drugs funds more criminal activity which leads to fear and misery for individuals and communities.
"Stopping the people behind the growth and sale of cannabis is vital in tackling violent crime and helps keep our community safe.”
