In good news for Essex residents, the rates of burglaries in the region have fallen 30 per cent in the last year.

According to figures released by Essex police, there were 2,664 fewer cases of the offence recorded between July 2020 and July 2021.

The numbers are part of a continuing downward trend in the rates of the offence, with an 18 per cent reduction in burglaries recorded for the year ending 2020.

This trend also indicates that the fall in rates is not solely due to the lockdown restrictions that were in place for much of the year.

“The figures show a really promising trend, not just through the coronavirus pandemic when the country was subject to restrictions, but also before then. So, it is clear we are moving in the right direction", says Chief Superintendent Simon Anslow.

Despite this fall in numbers, Essex Police in a statement vowed not to rest on their laurels.

They also say they will continue to maintain the high standard they have in place in dealing with the crime.

Mr. Anslow, despite the promising trend, urges people to be cautious and maintained that individuals' actions is the best deterrent for these crimes.

"As the days and evenings stay lighter and warmer – locking doors and windows and leaving car keys well away from plain sight through windows”, he adds.
