A man convicted of killing Steven Warburton in Colchester has been jailed for manslaughter.

Brodie Groome, of Sydney Street, Brightlingsea, assaulted Steve in Colchester High Street last year following a night out in the town centre.

Two groups became involved in an argument in Vineyard Street car park just after midnight on Wednesday 19 August 2020.

While leaning down to help his wife, who had been knocked to the floor in the scuffle, Steve, 46, was punched once by 27-year-old Groome.

Steve died of a brain injury three weeks later, caused by the force of falling backwards and hitting his head against the pavement.

On Thursday 30 September 2021, a jury found Groome guilty of manslaughter following a trial at Ipswich Crown Court.

At the same court today (Thursday 2 December) he received a 13-year sentence.
