A woman from Brentwood has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a 19-year-old man at an address in Norman Crescent.

Police were called to the property on the evening of Sunday 19th October over concerns for the welfare of a man at the location.

Officers later found the 19-year-old deceased inside the property.

Irene Webb, 50, of Norman Crescent, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder as enquiries continued. She appeared before Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 21st October and was remanded in custody.

Webb is due to appear for a preliminary hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on Wednesday 22nd October.

A detailed investigation is being led by the Serious Crime Directorate, with officers continuing to piece together the circumstances leading to the man’s death.

Detective Inspector James Holmes said: “This continues to be a complex investigation into an incident with a very upsetting set of circumstances.

“We will continue to provide updates where we can, balancing our duty to inform the public with the need to maintain the integrity of our investigation and ensure the welfare of a devastated family. I would continue to please call for speculation to be avoided, out of respect for those who suffered an awful loss mere days ago.”

The family of the deceased man is being supported by specialist officers.
