Students information might have been accessed during school cyber attack
An update has been issued by The Billericay School's Headmaster
A school in Essex say student's information might have been accessed by cyber criminals who attacked systems during half term.
The Billericay School was closed yesterday whilst efforts to access their IT systems continued.
Students are due to return to the school this morning, with updates posted to their website by Headmaster Patrick Berry.
In a letter to parents and carers, Mr Berry states that some information held by the school about students could have been accessed by the criminals, and that currently they're unsure as to what has been accessed.
Name, address, basic medical notes, date of birth, and contacts for parents and carers were all listed as details that might have been viewed for those outside of the school system.
Mr Berry sincerely apologises for the potential risks in the letter, confirming the school is working with Action Fraud and Police to investigate.
Parents and carers are being advised to be vigilant when opening emails and webpages using any email addresses they hold.
The Billericay School is open as normal today, with students back whilst ongoing "digital challenges" continue to be addressed.
The letter confirms the school is doing all it can to strengthen defences against cyber-crime.
