Staff at Colchester Zoo are celebrating the arrival of a baby alpaca.

The young male cria has been named Louis, after mum Louise. Louise is herself a recent arrival at the zoo, having moved from a farm along with another female alpaca named Laila.

Louis was born healthy and will spend time with his mum until he is weaned, at the age of around six months.

His mother's milk is important for his growth as it is high in calcium and phosphorus.

The three alpacas can be seen at the zoo's Southern Wild enclosure.

The species is a domesticated version of the vicuña, which is native to the Andes in South America.
