Attempted murder investigation begins in Chelmsford

Officers will be in the Meadgate Avenue area carrying out enquiries

Essex police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious assault in Chelmsford.

Officers were called to reports of a man seriously injured in Meadgate Avenue in Chelmsford at about 7.10pm on Wednesday 12 February.

Police worked with emergency services to treat a man with life-threatening injuries before he was taken to hospital by the East of England Air Ambulance.

Following treatment his injuries are no longer considered life-threatening and he remains in hospital.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested from Great Baddow on suspicion of attempted murder.

He remains in custody while enquires continue.

'No information is too small'

Detective Inspector Andy Drake said:

“There will be an increased police presence in the Meadgate Avenue area while this investigation continues and we would like to reassure everyone that there is no wider risk to the public.

“This has been an incredibly fast-moving investigation – a lot of work has already been carried out at the scene and we will be conducting further enquiries today to establish exactly what happened on Wednesday evening.

“Paramedics and officers first on the scene carried out vital first aid and I’d like to thank them for their efforts to help this victim.

“Most importantly, if you believe you have any information about this incident or any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around this time, I’d urge you to get in touch with us. No piece of information is too small.”
