Essex Police are appealing for dashcam footage and information after a driver left the scene of a collision in Southend yesterday (September 6).

Officers were called after reports of a driver failing to stop at the scene of a crash at Cuckoo Corner, near to Manners Way at around 5:25pm.

When police then found and stopped the driver, they tried to escape, and leave the scene, knocking a police officer over with their car.

The officer was taken to hospital and suffered minor injuries.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of assault emergency worker and drug driving.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston said: “We are always working hard to keep our county’s roads safe.

“Everyone is entitled to travel safely on our roads, whether that’s a member of the public or one of our officers.

“I’m glad to say our officer is doing well after this incident, and I wish them a speedy recovery.”
