A teenager's been seriously injured after an assault in Southend yesterday (February 29).

The 17-year-old boy was found with injuries - not thought to be life-threatening - just after 3pm when police were called to Western Esplanade.

A cordon and scene was set up during the afternoon, which has since been removed, but police remained in the area yesterday and more officers will be seen today.

Police believe he was assaulted near to the Westcliff Hotel, and have now launched an appeal for witnesses and information.

Detective Inspector Steve Franklin said “We are working quickly to investigate this assault. No arrests have been made at this stage but our officers have seized a weapon we believe to be connected.

“Residents will continue to notice an increased police presence tonight and into tomorrow whilst we continue our enquiries. I can assure the public that we believe this to be an isolated incident.”
