The public is being urged to take a step forward to support their local hospital in the annual Walk for Wards.

The fundraising extravaganza, taking place tomorrow (Sunday 22 September), will see over 100 walkers begin at Pavilion fish & Chips by Adventure Island in Southend, proceed towards Chalkwell and then circle back to finish at the starting point in support of Basildon, Broomfield and Southend Hospitals.

The family-friendly event will offer local residents the chance to take the 7km seafront stroll and support any Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust wards, hospital or the Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal.

The Mid and South Essex Hospitals charity says:

"Every penny donated contributes to making a real difference to patients, their families and the amazing staff that treat them.

"With your help we are able to improve the hospital environment with extra comforts, provide state-of-the-art equipment, fund ground-breaking research, and support the development and training of hospital staff.

"It is our job to make sure that your generously donated money is spent carefully and for the purposes for which it was given. With a commitment of placing our patients at the centre of everything we do – the vital support of our community means that we can reach beyond what is already provided by our wonderful NHS.

"Whether you’re a longstanding supporter, or new to our charity – your help means everything to us, our valuable NHS staff and to our patients."
