People in Alresford to vote on proposed neighbourhood plan
Voters will be heading to the polls next month
People in Alresford will be heading to the polls next month, to vote on a proposed neighbourhood plan.
A neighbourhood plan is a blueprint to shape planning policy within a local area.
It allows residents to shape where they live and work for the future.
Alresford’s draft neighbourhood plan has been prepared by the parish council.
It has been through several stages of consultation, and has been found 'sound' by an independent Planning Inspector after an examination hearing.
But, it now needs to be voted on by residents.
The polling station will be at Alresford Pavilion, Ford Lane, on 9 September, and will be open from 7am until 10pm.
Anybody who is not already entitled to vote must apply by midnight on 23 August.
The deadline for a postal vote application is 5pm on 24 August and for a proxy vote 5pm on 1 September.
Ian Davidson, Returning Officer, and Chief Executive at Tendring District Council, said:
"This referendum is the chance for Alresford residents to shape the future of where they live, so I would encourage people to vote.
"You must be on the electoral register to vote, so if you’re not already registered then now is the time to sign up."
Eligible voters will receive a polling card in the coming weeks.
Applications to register to vote, or for postal or proxy voting, can be made online.
