A120 closed after serious crash

Officers are urging people to avoid the area

The A120 is closed between Coggeshall and Marks Tey this evening (13 August) after a serious crash.

Essex Police has confirmed the road is closed on the Braintree side at the junction with the B1024 Colchester Road and on the Colchester side at the junction with Station Road.

A single vehicle left the road and collided with a tree.

A post on the Essex Police Colchester District Facebook page stated:

"Emergency road closures are in and will be reinforced/improved by the local council highways staff when possible, please avoid the area and forward this message to anyone you think may be intending to use this route to travel between Braintree and Colchester.

"Did you see anything or have any relevant dash came footage?

"Please call 101 or contact us via online chat, quoting incident number 645, thank you."

Meanwhile Essex County Fire & Rescue Service has confirmed firefighters rescued a woman from her car after a crash in Marks Tey on Coggeshall Road.

Crews reported a car had left the roadway and collided with a tree.

A woman was reportedly trapped inside the car.

Firefighters rescued her and she was left in the care of the ambulance service.
