Disruption for Essex drivers with A12 weekend closure
The A12 northbound carriageway will be closed from junction J25 - J26
The closure started at 9pm last night and is in place until 5am on Monday morning.
This section of the road is closed as work continues on a £37 million project to remove the old concrete surface of the carriageway between J25 - J26 and replace it with a new asphalt finish.
Northbound traffic is being diverted off from J25 at Marks Tey and will travel via B1408, A1124, before re-joining the A12 at J26 Stanway.
The southbound side of the carriageway will be unaffected during these times.
National Highways Assistant Project Manager for the scheme said, "The time it takes for the foundations and the new road surface to fully dry means we can only carry out this work over a weekend.
"We carefully plan all our closures to try and limit any inconvenience, but sometimes it's simply not possible to carry out the work that's needed without an impact on local roads and surrounding routes. Our message ahead of the weekend - please avoid the area if you can. If that's not possible, allow yourself extra time to complete your journey."
The revitalised road is expected to be open to traffic from spring next year.
