At 6:50pm yesterday evening, Essex Fire and Rescue were called out to a road in-between Ingatestone and Billericay, where a vehicle had gotten stuck in flood water and its driver still inside.

A water sled was used to rescue the woman from the vehicle, which had partially been submerged in a ford at Buttsbury Wash.

The crew manager, Marc Kyprianou has said "this type of incident is easily avoided - if you see any flooded roads, simply do not drive through them".

He added a number of crews and officers had to assist at the incident, using resources that could have been used to help at other emergencies.

Mr Kyprianou's advice to the public is "If you see flood water, turn around and find another route. Remember just 2ft of water is enough to float a car. It's not worth taking the risk."

More information about flood safety is available on their website.
