Police have been granted permission to charge 19 people after Insulate Britain protestors blocked a road in Grays last October.

Demonstrators sat on the road at St Clements Way, near the Dartford Crossing, stopping traffic on October 13.

There were similar demonstrations on the M25 and M11 by the group, which wants the government to do more to tackle climate change.

At times they were confronted by angry drivers who were delayed by the protests.

A spokesperson from Essex Police said: "Officers have worked closely with the Crown Prosecution Service as part of the ongoing investigation into the disruption in Essex and in other counties"

"(We) have now received authorisation to charge 19 people with obstruction of the highway."

The group are due to appear before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on May 26.
