16-year-old arrested in connection with Shoebury attempted murder
The teen was detained in Southend by an off-duty Met Police officer
A 16-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, which took place in Shoebury in May.
Essex Police in Southend were called to Southend High Street on Friday evening (June 28), around 7pm after reports of a group of boys fighting, with one reportedly in possession of a knife.
An off-duty Met Police officer chased the boy and detained him, before Essex Police officers arrived and arrested the 16-year-old on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and possession of a class B or C drug.
He was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, in connection with a serious assault Chapel Road in Shoebury on 19 May.
Police say they found a knife in a nearby bin, and the teen is in custody.
The bravery shown by the Met Officer has been described as "admirable" by District Commander for Southend, Chief Inspector Jo Collins, reflecting "the courage that police officers across the country show every day".
The assault in Chapel Road is continuing to be investigated.
