Citizens Advice Essex have teamed up with Macmillan to support people with bills
They're helping people with cancer find financial relief
Citizens Advice Essex have joined forces with Macmillan Cancer Support to help people with cancer uncover financial relief that they may be entitled to.
The service has gone live across Essex to help those struggling with the hidden costs of cancer and the spiralling cost of living.
It is being completely funded with £1.3 million worth of supporter donations to establish a team of Macmillan Welfare Benefits Advisors who will support people with cancer and their loved ones throughout the whole process.
Matin Lord is from Citizens Advice Essex, he told us they want to help where they can: " We'll stay with them throughout the whole process and over the course of a couple of months we'll make sure that all of those financial issues are addressed and that the persons income is as high as it possible can be."
"Cancer like many other illnesses or conditions will create additional costs. For example the cost of getting to and from the hospital is significant. People who have cancer often feel colder and need to keep the house warmer. They might be more vulnerable to infections and so they will be getting advice that they need to keep the house nice and warm. We know full well how difficult that is to afford in the current climate."
