Eastenders to honour war heroes on 80th anniversary of VE Day
The special episode will also touch on Nigel's Dementia diagnosis
Last updated 8th May 2025
Eastenders is set to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a special episode tonight. On Thursday 8th May — exactly 80 years since celebrations were held across Europe to mark the end of World War II in Europe — the soap will air poignant nods to wartime Britain, and a party in The Vic.
The episode, which will see The Square's favourite watering hole reopen for business, will also include historical footage and music associated with World War II.
Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw said: “Like many others across the UK who will be marking this poignant moment in history, we wanted to honour and remember those courageous individuals who gave their lives during the war with a special EastEnders episode marking 80 years since V.E. Day.”
Viewers will see the residents of The Square come together to mark the occasion, which will coincide with the re-opening of The Queen Vic – following February’s deadly fire there. Sadly Nigel’s dementia is starting to take hold, and he believes the celebrations are for 1995’s 50th anniversary.
Elsewhere on The Square, Cindy's back and a new baby Beale is born.
When will Eastenders VE Day episode be on TV?
