Previously shelved Prince album 'Camille' set to be released
He recorded the album in 1986
Fans of music phenomenon Prince will get to hear songs from his 'Camille' album released together for the first time. The previously unreleased album was created by Prince in 1986 and is now due to get an official release.
The album was recorded when Prince briefly went by the female alter-ego Camille, with pitched-up vocals and his androgynous style. The self-titled album contains eight tracks but was never officially released as a record, having been shelved after test pressings of the album were produced.
The songs from the album have been heard before and released in some capacity, but they are hard to find online and the songs have never been released together on one record. Some of the songs were on his 1987 'Sign O' The Times' album and the track 'Rebirth Of The Flesh' only appeared on the Super Deluxe Edition of the album released in 2020. Other songs appeared as the B sides for other tracks over the years.
'Camille' tracklist:
‘Rebirth Of The Flesh’
‘Housequake’
‘Strange Relationship’
‘Feel U Up’
‘Shockadelica’
‘Good Love’
‘If I Was Your Girlfriend’
‘Rockhard In A Funky Place’
Listen to 'Rebirth Of The Flesh' by Prince:
The album will be released by Third Man Records and has permission from Prince's estate. Speaking to Mojo, Third Man Record's co-founder Ben Blackwell said: "We’re finally going to put it out. Prince’s people agreed – almost too easy."
Prince planned on releasing the album under the pseudonym Camille, and it seems like the album will still be released under that name.
This isn't the first of Prince's work to be released posthumously, as his lost album 'Welcome 2 America' finally got released in 2021 , more than a decade after it was made.
Speaking about the album back in 2010, Prince explained: 'The world is fraught with misin4mation. George Orwell’s vision of the future is here. We need 2 remain steadfast in faith in the trying times ahead.'
Several previously unheard songs had been released prior to this including 'Cosmic Day', 'Born 2 Die' and 'Hot Summer'.
