Phil Collins bids farewell to fans as Genesis plays final ever show
They played the last gig of their 'The Last Domino?' tour
Last updated 28th Mar 2022
To wrap up an incredible 55-year career, legendary band Genesis got back together for a reunion tour and following some rescheduling due to Covid-19, they have now performed their final show.
The group first formed in 1967, with Phil joining them in 1970, and in their time together they brought out huge hits like 'Invisible Touch', 'I Can't Dance', 'Mama', and 'Turn It On Again'.
The final show took place at the O2 Arena in London on 26th March and saw the group play the final date of their 'The Last Domino?' world tour.
During the performance, Phil addressed the crowd to confirm that it would be their final show together, saying: "It's the last stop of our tour, and it's the last show for Genesis." Once the crowds cheering and support quieted down he joked: "After tonight we've all got to get real jobs."
Watch Phil Collins address the crowd at final Genesis show:
The show had former bandmate Peter Gabriel - who left in 1975 - join the crowd to watch Genesis perform 23 of their biggest tracks for their fans. Phil even joked about hearing Peter shouting for them to play 'Supper's Ready' during the show, and the pair later shared a photo together with tour manager Richard McPhail.
At this performance, the band was made up of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Daryl Stuermer, Daniel Pearce, Patrick Smyth, and Phil's son Nic, who played the drums while his father sang.
Phil suffered a spinal injury in 2007, which caused lasting nerve damage, and speaking to BBC Breakfast he explained: "I can barely hold a stick with this hand. So there are certain physical things that get in the way. I'm kind of physically challenged a bit, which is very frustrating because I’d love to be playing up there with my son." He also commented on his son's drumming style: "He plays like me and he kinda has the same attitude as me, so that was a good starter."
