Barack Obama admits he 'screwed up' not awarding Dolly Parton the Medal of Freedom
"She deserves one. I'll call Biden"
Country icon Dolly Parton has been in the news a lot recently, with the release of her new Christmas Netflix Original Dolly Parton's Christmas on The Square and helping to fund a COVID vaccine.
And now, it seems that she's the subject of an interview between former US President Barack Obama and CBS' The Late Show host Stephen Colbert, who asked why Dolly hadn't received the US' highest civilian award - the Medal of Freedom - while Obama was in office.
"How does Dolly Parton not have a Presidential Medal of Freedom?" Stephen asked, continuing, "Looking back on your eight years, do you realise that was the mistake you made?"
With Obama responding, "That's a mistake, I'm shocked, I think I assumed that she had already got one, and that was incorrect."
During his time as President, Obama awarded the Medal of Freedom to many artists including Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Gloria Estefan and Barbra Streisand. However is seems that Dolly was overlooked and Obama would like to rectify that by calling Joe Biden, who is currently the President Elect, saying, "She deserves one. I'll call Biden."
Questions also asked during the interview included Obama's favourite Monopoly playing piece because, "It doesn't tip over and has good stability!" 🤣
