Bucks Fizz are reuniting for a virtual Eurovision performance
The band won the contest in 1981
80s band Bucks Fizz have some very exciting news for their fans! The band, made up of remaining members Jay Aston, Cheryl Baker and Mike Nolan, have announced they are going to reunite for a virtual performance.
The band were poised for a hugely-anticipated return to the Eurovision stage following their famous victory with 'Making Your Mind Up' way back in 1981, but after organisers were forced to cancel the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the plans were abolished.
However, in an amazing turn of events, the band, who are now known as 'The Fizz', will reunite virtually and perform from home on Saturday 16th May, as part of a virtual Eurovision show set up by bosses of the contest.
58-year-old Jay Aston told the Daily Mirror, "We will be doing a virtual live performance on the night from our living rooms."
And if you think they are going to be performing that ICONIC skirt rip, you would be right! Jay added, “There is a cue in the music so we won’t get that wrong! I still have so many skirts in my wardrobe with bits of Velcro on a virtual skirt rip is possible.”
Bucks Fizz had amazing success in the early 80s, winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with their single 'Making Your Mind Up', going on to sell more than 50 million records before they split in 1988.
Instead of the planned Eurovision Song Contest final on Saturday 16th May, the BBC recently announced the new schedule, with the night kicking off at 6.30pm as Graham Norton hosts Eurovision: Come Together from the BBC studios.
At 8pm, the official Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light event will be shown, simultaneously broadcasting around Europe. The special show will allow all 41 entries to showcase their songs in a 'non competitive format', before a number of virtual singalongs.
Roll on 16th May! 🇬🇧
