U2 frontman Bono is the subject of a new feature-length documentary film called Bono: Stories to Surrender.
Directed by Andrew Dominik, Bono: Stories to Surrender will start streaming on Apple TV+ from Friday 30th May 2025.
As the title suggests, the documentary is based on the Irish singer’s 2022 memoir Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, which featured 40 chapters, each named after a U2 song, and 40 accompanying original drawings by Bono.
It will also focus on the New York dates of Bono’s ‘one-man show’ book tour that took place across North America and Europe in autumn 2022.
A description of the film reads: 'As (Bono) pulls back the curtain on a remarkable life and the family, friends and faith that have challenged and sustained him, he also reveals personal stories about his journey as a son, father, husband, activist and rock star.
‘Along with never-before-seen, exclusive footage from the Beacon Theatre shows, the film features Bono performing many of the iconic U2 songs that have shaped his life and legacy.
‘Also set to premiere on May 30, 2025 on Apple Vision Pro, Bono: Stories of Surrender (Immersive) will be the first feature-length film available in Apple Immersive Video, a remarkable media format recorded in 8K with Spatial Audio to produce a 180-degree video that places viewers onstage with Bono and in the centre of his story.
'With this special edition of the film available only on Vision Pro, viewers will feel completely immersed in the music and storytelling.'
An abridged and updated paperback edition of Bono’s book called Bono: Stories of Surrender, will be released to coincide with the film. The release date for the new edition of the book was confirmed on social media, with the artwork being posted with the caption: 'Bono: Stories of Surrender” is an unforgettable love story and a tribute to fatherhood, friendship, faith, and music.
'Introspective, intimate, and irreverent in equal measure, this abridged version of “Bono: Stories of Surrender,” Bono’s bestselling memoir, serves as a companion to the Apple Original Film of his critically acclaimed one-man show of the same name streaming on @appletv this May.
'Featuring a new introduction by Bono, this updated paperback edition will be available May 20th in Ireland & the UK and May 27th in the US & Canada.'
