'Ain't No Sunshine' singer Bill Withers has died at the age of 81 according to Associated Press. The singer was known for his hits, 'Lean On Me' released in 1987, which reached Number 3 in the UK, 'Just the Two of Us' and 'Lovely Day.'

The family's statement read, 'We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other.'

It continued, 'As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world. In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones.'

It's understood that the three-time GRAMMY Award winner died from heart complications on Monday 30th March 2020.

Tributes to the late singer have been coming in from fans around the world with one saying, 'R.I.P. Bill Withers Broken heart One of the most amazingly beautifully talented musicians everBroken heart His voice makes me feel like I'm home no matter how lost I feel Broken heart,' and another saying, 'Thank you, Bill Withers, for everything you’ve given us musically. 🙏🏽'. (sic)

Actor Robert Davi also tweeted, 'Songs that have been a part of our lives by Bill Withers—the 1970s R&B singer/songwriter who recorded the modern soul standards “Lean On Me,” “Ain’t No Sunshine,” shall live on.' (sic)
