How did you get in to radio?
I wrote to Piccadilly Radio in Manchester when I was living in the USA – they wrote back! Started there as a tea boy in 1981 and did my first show in 1983 which means I’ve now been doing this for 35 years!
What can we expect from your show?
Great music naturally and plenty of laughing. (Hopefully for the right reasons).
What do you love most about radio?
Being invited into people’s homes, cars, bedrooms and bathrooms.
Name 3 of your all-time top 10 songs?
War Baby – Tom Robinson
Summer of 69 – Bryan Adams
Girls on Film – Duran Duran
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Oh – too hard! But, if pushed – “Pass Out” by Tinie Tempah...
Do you have any rituals that you must do before you start a show?
Not really. I am a creature of habit so I do have a routine but if it doesn’t happen I don’t worry that the show will be a disaster!
What do you spend time doing when not on air?
Walking with my wife and my dogs, at home or in the Lake District.
What’s your most treasured possession?
I couldn’t put anything above my family and they’re certainly not a possession – so how about the house they were brought up in. Our home.
