A reboot of the classic film Ghost is in the works
Although it's going to be different
Last updated 18th Jan 2023
When Ghost was released in 1990 it was a huge hit. The film, which starred Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and an Oscar-winning Whoopi Goldberg, became famous for that now iconic scene at the pottery wheel, but it seems that no film is too good for a reboot.
In a recent interview, Magic Mike star Channing Tatum has revealed that he owns the rights to the film and a new version is in the works. However he told Vanity Fair: "We’re going to do something different. I think it needs to change a little bit," referring to some of the stereotypical attitudes and portrayals in the original film, however he didn't reveal what would be changed.
The original movie, which received five nominations at the 63rd Academy Awards, starred Patrick Swayze as a banker called Sam, who was madly in love with an artist, Molly, played by Demi Moore. Sadly Sam is murdered during a mugging, but he isn't ready to move on, finding out that his murder wasn't random and Molly is also in danger.
Sam then enlists the help of a fake medium, Oda Mae Brown, played by Whoopi Goldberg, to help warn Molly of the danger she's in. Despite being fake, Oda Mae can actually see and hear Sam and tries to save Molly.
