The first in a series of Winnie-the-Pooh 50p coins has been released 🍯
It's the first time Winnie-the-Pooh has appeared on a UK coin
We just love how inventive The Royal Mint has been over recent years with their various designs of the 50p including, Peter Pan, Gruffalo, Professor Stephen Hawking, Peter Rabbit, Sherlock Holmes, and two Paddington Bear designs.
And now, The Royal Mint has launched a new series of designs featuring the lovable children's character Winnie-the-Pooh and friends. Revealing the first design on Instagram, Winnie can be seen sitting on the ground eating honey with his paws.
The limited edition commemorative coin is now available in a range of finishes including brilliant uncirculated, Silver and Gold, which can be printed in colour.
Speaking about the new coin, Daniel Thorne, who is a product designer at The Royal Mint said, "Working with original illustrations from E.H. Shepard, supplied to us by Disney, my biggest priority with the coin’s design was to ensure we do these wonderful images justice."
Daniel continued, "I’m honoured to have been able to work on this exciting coin. Winnie-the-Pooh was a huge part of my childhood and forms some of my fondest memories."
Prices for the new Winnie-The-Pooh design start at £10 for a brilliant uncirculated coin, ranging up to £1,125 for a Gold proof coin, of which only 525 will be made.
For those hoping to get their hands on one the new design, at the time of writing, there is a queue on The Royal Mint website to buy the coins!
In addition to this exciting new design, The Royal Mint has also confirmed two more designs in the series will come this year, one will feature Christopher Robin with the other featuring Piglet.
