Last updated 3rd Dec 2021
Music legend Whitney Houston is the best-selling female artist of all time, and throughout her career she released many timeless hits like 'How Will I Know', 'I Will Always Love You’ and ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)’. There is now a new documentary about her life in production, and although there isn't an official release date yet, we can expect to see it come out in early 2022.
Titled Whitney Houston In Focus, the documentary will take a look at her early singing career. It is based on the book Young Whitney: Stories and Photographs by photographer Bette Marshall, who got to know Whitney in her teenage years before she shot to fame.
Bette captured stunning photos of the singer between 1982 and 1986 and has collated them into the book as a tribute to Whitney. The book is due to be published in February 2022, which coincides with the 10-year-anniversary of Whitney's sad passing.
Throughout her career, Bette has photographed huge names including Nelson Mandela and Queen Elizabeth II. While working with Whitney, she captured many moments from her life including early auditions, recording sessions, and going to church, and has shared personal stories as to be included in the documentary.
Whitney Houston In Focus is being produced and directed by Benjamin Alfonsi, with Emmy, Grammy and Tony-winning actress Audra McDonald, narrating the documentary as well as being the executive producer.
Speaking about the documentary, Audra said: “We all witnessed her superstardom, and I’m honored to help tell this part of Whitney’s story, before it all began.”
