A man has been handed a life sentence for the murder of another man in Livingston last summer.

John Young, 33, was sentenced to 15 in years in jail today (Tuesday) after being convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh last month.

46-year-old James Hynes was found serious injured outside an address in Jackson Place on 21 July 2023 after being attacked.

He passed away at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh one month later.

Detective Sergeant Keith Sinclair said: “I hope today’s sentencing will bring some comfort to James Hynes’ family and friends as they continue to come to terms with what happened to him. Our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.

“Young will now face the consequences of his despicable actions.

“Police Scotland is committed to bringing perpetrators to justice and we will continue to work closely with our partners to do so.”
