Are you a traditionalist going out for a meal for two at an exclusive restaurant, or do you like stay in and watch a few DVDs or play some board games? Here are our top five ways to spend Valentine’s Day with your loved one.

1. Romantic meal--------------------

Whether you choose to have a romantic meal in or out it’s probably up to how healthy your bank balance is.

If you decide to eat out then book as far in advance as possible, the best places will book up quickly. You might find you’re better booking either-side of the day itself if you don’t mind making it a special evening on a different date.

2. Cinema-------------

The cinema is probably one of the more expensive things to do unless you go on a day that the cinema has a promotion, but it’s still a fun night out with your partner.

There are plenty of films out this Valentine’s Day. Most films out at this time of year are rom-coms as you would expect, but occasionally you’ll find an anti-Valentine’s film if you’re looking for something different.

3. Night in---------------

A night in can take all forms, whether you treat your other half to a candlelit dinner or a takeaway in front of a romantic DVD.

A couple’s busy lives these days can really benefit from a night in without the phone buzzing with messages or Facebook notifications every few minutes. Why not try putting your mobiles and tablets in a different room while you enjoy each other’s company and chat, it can’t be that bad can it?

4. Spa day--------------

Even for men a spa day can be a great way to relax and unwind after a stressful week at work.

Whether you have a spa day with a treatment, or a full spa weekend spending time together away from the hubbub of your everyday life can be just the thing you need. Like most things these days you can pick up some great deals if you hunt around. Men, don’t write off the idea of a spa day without trying it first, you might like it.

5. Weekend away-------------------

A weekend away doesn’t only have to be for those with a bit more cash in the bank. Websites such as Dabbl have some great deals, even over the Valentine’s weekend itself. If you’re looking to get away try looking further afield, you’ll be surprised, sometimes a weekend abroad and can more cost effective than a weekend closer to home.
