More than 60% of people in the region were in favour of Brexit and while racist incidents remain low - the council's Cabinet will meet in Scunthorpe tonight to discuss what can be done to ensure all communities feel safe and protected.

In the wake of Brexit, there have been two reported hate crimes.

Councillr Rob Waltham, deputy leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“We are proud of our very diverse communities in North Lincolnshire and condemn acts of racism, xenophobia and hate crimes. It is illegal to commit such a crime and anyone found doing so will receive the full force of the law.

“The council supports many initiatives to ensure that everyone feel safe and protected.

“We will be discussing our zero tolerance approach at Cabinet on Tuesday.”
