Work to continue on Grimsby's Corporation Bridge
The crossing is undergoing a refurb worth around ÂŁ5m
Work is to continue on Grimsby's historic Corporation Bridge next month, after unsuccessful attempts to lift the bridge earlier this month.
The crossing, which was originally built in 1925, is undergoing a ÂŁ.4.967m refurb funded by North East Lincolnshire Council and the Department from Transport.
On July 1st and attempt was made by engineers to raise the bridge, which straddles the Old Dock.
It got stuck, although all parts of the bridge above the waterline appear to be working.
Its thought debris may be causing it to stick so engineers are going back for a second look.
From Monday (July 12) a contractor will be on site testing the electronics on the bridge.
From Wednesday (June 14) inspections will be carried out on the underside of the crossing.
The road is expected to remain open for vehicles throughout.
A further attempt will be made to lift the bridge on Tuesday 20 July, with the road being closed between 9:30am and 4pm. Diversions will be place.
The 1920s bridge was originally lifted with the help of a steam powered tug. Its a Grade II listed landmark which North East Lincolnshire Council hopes will be central to the regeneration of Grimsby's docks.
