Warnings about the impact of just one punch following the death of a Hull man
Police are educating youngsters about how just one punch could kill
Police are warning people of how just one punch can leave a lasting impact and devastate families - following the death of a Hull man.
It comes after a man was jailed last week for manslaughter - after headbutting Peter Houghton in September 2022
We spoke to Detective Superintendent Fran Naughton who told us educating children is key:
"We need to get in at the earliest opportunity, particularly with the younger age group to realise the consequences of what a one punch can co."
People don't always realise that one strike, loss of temper, can actually cause devastation
"It just devastates whole families both victim's families but also the suspect themselves."
"We want then to realise that by losing control they can actually destroy their lives and their families."
"Sadly perhaps only when they see the court case from last week and realise that people actually receive prison sentences, the fact that they actually destroy families."
"We want to make them realise, stop, think and walk away and avoid these situations."
"We do go into schools and raise awareness of violence in general and different areas but this narrows it down, people don't always realise that one strike, loss of temper, loss of control can actually cause such devastation in just a second."
