A Hull man has been jailed for 24 years after he was convicted of sexually assaulting four children between 2000 and 2008.

Daniel Bottger, 35, of Sculcoates Lane, Hull was given the sentence at Hull Crown Court on Monday 25 September, following the conclusion of his trial on Tuesday 1 August.

Despite his not-guilty pleas, the jury reached a unanimous guilty verdict for all nine offences after just three and a half days.

Speaking of the trauma faced because of this man, one of the victims said: “Reliving this experience has been highly triggering for me.

“Imagine maggots under your skin eating away slowly at your flesh every day, that’s what it is like. Every day I get reminded about what he did and said. I will get triggered by something and it puts me right back there.

“Throughout all of this he could have accepted his blame, his part in what he put me through but instead we have had to be put through all this, it makes us feel unbelieved.

“Even though this has been the most traumatic experience of my entire life I have come to the conclusion I can, and I will heal from this in time.

“I accept your silent apology Daniel with the time you spend in prison, and I hope it offers you a place to reflect whilst we all live our lives.”

Officer in the case, Detective Constable Emma Andrew, said: “This was a truly disturbing case with multiple young victims sexually abused by a person that they trusted.

“Bottger is an abhorrent man who cruelly abused his victims for his own perverse sexual gratification. He has shown no remorse for his actions, putting his victims through the further torment of a trial by refusing to admit his crimes.

“I am reassured that Bottger is now facing significant time behind bars for his crimes, unable to carry out his perverse attacks on anybody else.

“I want to thank the victims for their bravery in coming forward and commend them for the courage they have shown throughout the investigation and judicial proceedings.

“I hope that today’s sentencing reassures anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence that we will listen to you, and we will support you.”
