Hull City Council and East Ridings Council have given planning permission for a Veterans Village to be built in Hull.

The special housing project, which would offer homes to military veterans, could be built on a 22 acre site next to Priory Road.

It's taken three years for the project to get the green-light, and now those behind are trying to raise more money.

Celebrities, including presenter Nick Knowles and singer Calum Scott are behind a new campaign for donations.

Donations boxes have been sent out by Hull4Heroes to raise £60,000 for the site.

Paul Matson, who's from the charity, said there had been worldwide interest in the project.

"We sent out 115 boxes in the first day," Paul said. "They've gone off to Scotland, Cyprus and even Holland, so they're going out everywhere. We just thought it'd be Hull and East Riding."

There's plans to build a community hub on site that would offer veterans training for new career paths.

The charity says that people returning from the Armed Forces can often find it challenging to readjust to normal life, and are hoping the village could help them take their first steps.
