Paul Maston volunteered his time to the DIY SOS build in Manchester which saw 8 houses converted for veterans, and he's now leading the way for the same to be done in Hull.

Paul launched his idea on Saturday 7th November and has already had thousands of people in Hull, and the surrounding area, offering supplies and skills to help complete this build.

After seeing the difference this made to the ex-service men and women in Manchester, Paul knew that this was something that Hull should be leading the way with.

Viking FM spoke to Paul who explained that his own experience of serving in the armed forces means he understands the support veterans may need ...

'They don’t want to be left and pushed aside and put into homeless centres and possibly get a home later on. It needs to be sorted straight away. I think we need a street where they are living amongst civilians and they can integrate into the community.'

'We would be the first city to take this up on our own. Every person in Hull I think would help.'

'We've now got lots of companies that have come in to offer help with labour, and offer materials on a major scale. We probably have enough materials already to complete the project.'

‘I’ve been invited to charities to help the homeless veterans. We will be meeting these people. I know veterans that need help. So it’s got to be done. I know the feelings that these men might be going through.'
