Officers investigating a murder in West Parade in Hull have named the victim as 21-year-old Mateusz Szleper.

A post mortem has found he died from a number of stab wounds.

Detectives have been granted more time to question two men arrested in connection with the murder on West Parade on Sunday.

A warrant of further detention was issued today at Hull Magistrates Court and the two men aged 30 and 38 remain in police custody assisting with enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Baldwin leading the investigation gave the following update: "The 21 year old victim at the centre of this murder investigation has now been identified and named as Mateusz Szleper who lived locally in the Spring Bank area of Hull. I am also able to confirm that a post mortem examination completed yesterday concluded that Mr Szleper died as the result of a number of stab wounds.

"Our officers are continuing to support his family at this time. "As our investigation continues with a number of lines of enquiry being explored, I would like to reiterate my appeal to the public to come forward with information. We believe an altercation amongst a group of individuals in the West Parade/Spring Bank area at around 6pm on Sunday preceded the death of this young man.

"Whilst our officers continue to undertake local enquiries with area searches and detailed examination of CCTV, information from the public is also sought. We know that a number of people were out and about in the vicinity and it is likely someone will have seen something which could be of importance to our investigation. I would urge those people to come forward and call us. "Anyone with information can call directly to the Incident Room on 01482 220328 quoting log 385 of 14/02/16 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
