Union calls off strike action at Humberside Airport

Staff at Humberside Airport are to consider a new pay offer, meaning this week's planned 72 hour walkout won't now go ahead.

Last month Unison members, including firefighters, cleaners and security staff, walked out for a single day in a row over pay.

Following talks involving airport managers and the union arranged through arbitration service Acas, a new pay offer has been put forward, the union said.

If accepted by the airport workers, the offer would mean a pay rise of almost £1,900.

Unison Yorkshire and Humberside regional organiser Michael Parkinson said: “Staff have made their feelings clear, and it seems that their bosses are listening.

“It’s great that the airport’s senior managers and the union have shown that they want to resolve the dispute, and as a result a new and improved offer has been put forward. Meetings such as this also demonstrate the important work Acas can do in bringing opposing sides together for constructive talks.

“The offer will now be put to staff with a recommendation it is accepted.

“Hopefully this positive turn of events can be the start of a productive working relationship between UNISON and Humberside Airport.”
