Fall in unemployment rates in the East Riding over the last 12 months
The Jobcentre is putting it down to company incentives
Unemployment rates in the East Riding has fallen in the last 12 months.
The Jobcentre says in the East Riding of Yorkshire, there were 4,625 people unemployed and looking for work on Universal Credit or on Jobseekers Allowance. The figure of unemployed has fallen on year by 1,320. Out of the 4,625 - 795 of those are aged 18 to 24 and the number of that group looking for work/unemployed is down by 190 on year.
It is putting it down to company incentives but it is also offering advice to those who are worried about being unemployed or having bills they cannot pay.
Dave Waller, Employer and Partnership Manager at the Jobcentre in Hessle, said: "Those people that are worried and are maybe starting to struggle then if they're a Jobcentre customer, they just need to have a word with their work coach, explain the situation, say they're may be concerned or if they've actually got bills they can't pay at the moment, then the work coach can put them in touch with number of support organisations that may be able to help.
"Employers are desperate to find people to work for them. If people are willing to do that and maybe it's something they thought they couldn't move into then, they might have transferable skills to enable them to move into some sort of employment, which will hopefully help them as we move into this period of time when it's going to be more difficult.
"Currently there is employment opportunities out there and there are those employers who are desperately looking for people to join them and that could be full or part time. What we are finding, because employers are finding it difficult at the moment to recruit even though the unemployment figure has gone down, is that employees are trying to tempt people into work."
