The RSPCA is hunting a person who hurled a terrier out of the window of a car and onto a busy road in East Yorkshire.

The animal welfare charity was contacted by a woman who had witnessed the incident and rescued the petrified Jack Russell from the side of Hazel Old Lane in Hensall, near Goole.

“The lady told us she was driving along the road when she spotted the grey-coloured people carrier pull up, chuck the dog out of the window, and speed off.

“Thankfully, the quick-thinking motorist was able to stop her car and run to the little dog’s rescue, scooping her up and taking her home before calling us.”

The RSPCA is now appealing for anyone who saw what happened - on Wednesday afternoon (19 July) - or who has information that could help their investigation to get in touch.

RSPCA inspector Alice Cooper added:

“It’s unbelievable to think that someone has just thrown her out of the window of a car like she’s an empty crisp packet or a cigarette butt.

“This quite easily could have had a tragic outcome and she could have been seriously injured or even killed.

“Luckily, she wasn’t injured and is doing really well.

“Staff have named her Jenny and if no one comes forward to claim her, they will find her a loving new home.

“She is very friendly and is in good condition so has obviously been well looked after at some point. She’s such a sweet little dog so hopefully it shouldn’t take long to find her a lovely family to join.”

The car was described as a grey, people carrier and the man driving was described as being of slim build, around 6ft 2ins tall, with greying hair going bald on top, and a looped earring in his left ear. After dumping the dog he turned off Hazel Old Lane and sped off towards Snaith.

While frightened and dirty, the lucky little tan and white dog was not injured and is now being cared for by staff at a local RSPCA centre. She was not microchipped and was not wearing a collar with ID tag.

Jenny has a distinctive wonky tail which looks as though it has previously been broken.

The RSPCA is appealing for anyone who recognises her or the description of the man to get in touch by calling 0300 123 8018 and leaving a message.
