A 16-year-old boy has been charged after a police officer was assaulted following a police pursuit in North Hull.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was remanded into custody to appear at Hull Magistrates Court.

The officer had been pursuing a blue Audi that reportedly failed to stop on Ellerburn Avenue in Hull at around 2.50pm on Friday.

Two men in balaclavas on a moped, are alleged to have pulled out in front of the police car in attempt obstruct it.

The driver of the Audio abandoned the car on Clanthorpe estate and fled the scene.

Upon approaching the car to arrest the passenger of the vehicle, the police officer is reported to have been assaulted.

He was taken to hospital for serious injuries to his face, including a suspected fractured eye socket, after becoming unconscious during the incident.

An 18-year-old and 29-year-old were also arrested shortly after for assisting an offender and have been released on police bail.
