Summer BBQ Warning: Don’t drink and drive, motorists told in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire
Safer Roads Humber warns that summer sees a spike in drink-driving incidents
Drivers in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are being urged not to risk getting behind the wheel after drinking at summer BBQs.
Safer Roads Humber warns that summer sees a spike in drink-driving incidents.
Ruth Gore, Safer Roads Humber, said:
"The worst could happen is that you could have some sort of crash and injure everybody, or you could be pulled over, in which case, if you're over the limit, that's your licence gone. And it makes a massive impact on people.
"If you're going to have a drink, just leave the car at home. And to be honest, majority people do actually leave the car and find alternative transport. If you are going out with the car, don't be tempted to have a drink because you don't want to put yourself at risk and your loved one's at risk.
"There's definitely a peak in the summer months of drink drivers because people are taking the opportunity of the weather, but it's about planning ahead. So if you are going to go out, particularly if you're able in the rural areas, don't risk it. Plan your day out. Think about not just about the day of your drinking, but think about the morning afterwards as well. So if you're out on a Saturday, if you've got something on a Sunday or you're fit to drive, you can go to the morning after.org website, which gives you information about how long alcohol stays in any system."
