Six areas in northern Lincolnshire are still suffering from a Covid rate of 1,000 or higher.

The region has seen a downturn in the number of cases being reported as the third wave finally seems to have peaked.

However, infection rates still remain high in many neighbourhoods, and nearly 40 people are being treated in hospital.

As of Tuesday morning, 29 patients are in Grimsby hospital (with three in ICU) and 10 at Scunthorpe (with two in ICU).

The places with a rate of 1,000 cases per every 100,000 residents are colour-coded black on the government’s map.

All of these are in North East Lincolnshire, which has an overall rate of 908 per 100,000 in the latest figures (seven days up to July 21).

Most of the other neighbourhoods are coloured purple for 400 to 799 cases per 100,000.

North Lincolnshire has a lower rate of 408 per 100,000, with the highest cases concentrated in urban parts of Scunthorpe.

Most rural areas now have a rate of less than 400.

There areas with the highest rates are:

Cleethorpes North – 1,447 per 100,000

Sidney Park – 1,245 per 100,000

Immingham & Habrough – 1,134 per 100,000

Yarborough – 1,124 per 100,000

New Waltham – 1,029 per 100,000

Littlefield South & Grange – 1,010 per 100,000

Several areas fall just below the range:

Wellow in Grimsby has 999 per 100,000, and Nunsthorpe has 995 per 100,000

There are promising signs as the infection rate falls or slows.

In North East Lincolnshire, it dropped five per cent – around 80 fewer cases – compared to the previous week that data is available for.

North Lincolnshire’s rate of increase has slowed to 14 per cent, around half the number last week.

The area with the lowest Covid case rate is Goxhill, Barrow and New Holland which has a rate of 237 per 100,000 – less than a quarter of the highest neighbourhoods.
