Thousands of job seekers will soon be given the chance to find out all they need to know about working at Siemens' new wind turbine factory in Hull.

The green energy giant - which is recruiting a thousand staff to work at its blade manufacturing facility at Alexandra Dock - has organised a series of career events from next month.

It'll give people the opportunity to learn how they can apply for the different roles on offer.

Siemens say the events could accommodate up to 7,000 visitors but stressed that people had to register online in advance in order to attend.

Carolyn Woolway, Siemens Head of Human Resources for the Hull project, said:

“We really must stress that people shouldn’t just turn up and walk in. They need to register and book a slot in advance. That enables us to manage the numbers, as we expect there to be a great deal of interest in these events, and to ensure that everyone who attends gets the most out of their time.”

The venues have been chosen to cover the Hull area as widely as possible. Details are as follows:

East Hull Tuesday, September 29, Freedom Centre, Preston Road, Hull, HU9 3QB. 1.00pm to 7.00pm

West Hull Wednesday, September 30, Mercure Grange Park Hotel, Willerby, HU10 6EA 1.00pm to 7.00pm

Central Hull Saturday, October 3, Guildhall, Hull, HU1 2AA 10.00am to 4.00pm

People can register to attend the events from today (August 24) by going to the Green Port Hull website and following the link at www.greenporthull.co.uk/siemens.

The events are being staged by Siemens in partnership with Hull City Council, East Riding Council and Jobcentre Plus to ensure job-seekers receive the best possible service in terms of information, advice, support and resources.

Mrs Woolway added:

“If people are interested in jobs with Siemens in Hull my strong advice to them is to register and come along to one of these events.

“These events present a unique opportunity as everybody and everything is in one place for prospective applicants. They can find out all they need to know about the project and the jobs we are creating and speak directly to people from Siemens about these opportunities, the application process and our requirements.

“People who attend will also be able to get support from Jobcentre Plus in CV writing and preparing their job application.”

Anna Botten, Siemens Recruitment Manager, Wind Power UK, said the careers days were intended to provide comprehensive information, advice and support to prospective applicants and stressed Siemens staff would not be conducting interviews or accepting CVs on the day.

She urged potential applicants to register for job alerts via the Siemens UK website at www.siemens.co.uk/hulljobs and also review a wealth of information about the range of jobs that will be available at www.greenporthull.co.uk/siemens

She said:

“We would really encourage people to think prior to these events about the types of roles for which they might be suitable. They can do that based on the content on the Green Port Hull site.

“Our message is ‘do your research and come prepared’.

"People will get the most from their time by coming armed with specific questions about the jobs we will have available and what we’re looking for from applicants.

“We have significant experience of handling large volume recruitment campaigns and we have put a dedicated recruitment team in place to manage this process. We have robust processes that enable us to employ the best possible candidates and also ensure the candidate experience is very positive and professional.”
