A serious case review is to take place after a toddler drowned in a garden pond in East Yorkshire.

Two-year-old Joshua Barnett fell into the pond at his home in Woodmansey in March 2014. Last week his mum, 31-year-old Claire Barnett, was jailed for five years after pleading guilty to child cruelty.

East Riding Council's confirmed an investigation into the tragedy will be carried out and that they'll be working with other local authorities to see if any lessons can be learnt after Joshua's death.

A council spokesperson told Viking:

"A serious case review into this case is being led by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, with contributions from other local authorities where this family previously lived. In view of this, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
