Scunthorpe Mum Stabbed While Pregnant Still Suffering From Ordeal
Lauren Oliver was attacked at her Belton home last June.
A Scunthorpe woman who was stabbed in the stomach while heavily pregnant says she's still living in fear.
Seven months ago 26-year-old Lauren Oliver was attacked on the doorstep of her Belton home by her cage fighter ex-partner, Nicholas Leaning.
He stabbed Ms Oliver five times in the stomach last June - she was seven months pregnant at the time.
Her baby girl survived the incident following an emergency caesarian that same day.
In November, Leaning was sentenced to 19 years in prison for the attack but Lauren says her nightmare is far from over. She told Viking FM:
"It's been a nightmare it's completely changed my whole world upside down. Nothing has been the same as what it used to before and I don't think it will go back to how it used to be.
"I don't normally go out alone anymore, I used to go everywhere and I wouldn't be bothered but I have to make sure I go with somebody else now even if it is just nipping out for half an hour, I have to go with somebody. I'm coping because I have my kids but if I didn't have them I think it would be a lot harder. I have to keep going for them two otherwise I don't know where I'd be."
Lauren says she still suffers flashbacks from that day:
"It's still the same from the moment of me coming home to my door and then the attack happening and then to me getting to hospital and then I don't remember anything else and it's just that over and over again.
"I don't think it'll ever go away, it'll always be there but I don't want to have to live by that, I want to be able to move on from it."
Lauren also said she knows one day she'll have to tell her daughter about what happened:
"People say that I shouldn't tell her but she's going to hear it from somebody. She's always going to be known as the baby that tried to be killed by her dad so I am going to have to tell her. I don't want to tell her everything that happened but I am going to tell her about what happened."
