A Scunthorpe mum who donated one of her kidneys to a stranger after seeing an appeal on Facebook - thinks the site should be used more to help transplant patients.

Louise Drewery responded to an online plea to help save the life of 26-year-old Stacey Hewitt from Redcar in the North East.

After discovering she was a match - their operations were carried out in Newcastle in February.

Louise is thought to be the first person in the UK to donate an organ following a social media campaign and says she'd do it all again...

The pair have since formed a close friendship and speak on the phone every day.

You can watch a full video interview with Louise below:

26-year-old Stacey was suffering from kidney failure when her doctor suggested a transplant to prevent any further problems.

She told Viking she didn’t believe the offer straight away:

“I didn’t want to get my hopes up because you hear people put it on and then they don’t do anything about it.

"When I had my regular bloods done, they did say someone has come forward. I was pretty shocked that she actually did.

"She’s changed my life a lot, I don’t get out of breath any more, I’m always up and ready.

"I get to play with my son again, I can’t thank her enough for what she’s done for me.”

She’s also now urging people to use the social media site to try and find a donor.
