Drivers urged to plan head and make checks before travel to Humberside
Safer Roads Humber is issuing advice
With thousands of people expected to travel this weekend, we are being urged to plan ahead before setting off.
Figures from the RAC show a quarter of drivers never check their vehicles before a long journey, increasing the risk of breaking down.
Ruth Gore is from Safer Roads Humber and said: "Make sure that you've plenty of fuel, your tyres are OK, your coolant etc because the last thing you want to do is break down on your way out tomorrow or any other day of the week if it's really hot weather.
"If you're tired because you've not had a good night's sleep before or you're hot and bothered, then you probably won't be concentrating to the same level so your risk of collision is going to be higher. If you're being dazzled by the sun then that's another thing so make sure you have some sunglasses in the car.
"Have you got cooled drinks incase something goes wrong? Are you hydrated? Are you tired because you haven't been sleeping? Think about that. Are you actually fit to drive? Particularly if you're coming from quite a way because you'll be driving there and back in the heat. Let's talk about it and make sure that people are fit to drive in the first place."
